Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort

Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort

Our family really enjoyed our stay at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, which is located on the north side of the city; 1 block from the beach; next to the Bonnet House. Our room had a king size bed, a queen size sofa bed, and a pull down Murphy bed that easily slept the 6 of us. The room also had a full kitchen and 1.5 bath, which made it feel pretty roomy. We had a west-facing balcony with a…

Juneau Whale Watching

Juneau Whale Watching

Juneau Whale watching trip – whale fluke! The Juneau whale watching excursion one of the best moments of our Alaska family vacation.  We had heard that you are likely to see whales from the cruise ship and we were going to skip this excursion, but I’m so glad that we went ahead and did it!  The whales that you see on this excursion are up close and personal.  The whales that you see from the deck of the cruise ship are…

Our Alaska Family Vacation

Our Alaska Family Vacation

Taking an Alaska Family Vacation was on the top of our list for several years.  And now that it’s behind us (sadly), it was one of our all-time favorites!  The scenery and wildlife was amazing.  We saw moose, grizzly bears, caribou, calving glaciers, whales, seals, icebergs, the highest peak in North America and lots more.  A good portion of the vacation was on a cruise ship but we also spent a few nights just outside of Denali National Park which…

Disney Fantasy Kids’ Clubs

Disney Fantasy Kids’ Clubs

The Disney Fantasy Kids’ Clubs were very well-thought out, organized, and operated for each of the age groups! When planning the cruise, the idea of dumping our kids off during our family vacation in what I initially envisioned was onboard day care was very unappealing to me. I was so wrong. These clubs gave our kids the chance to make friends and have some fun without us for an hour or two during the day. Some days they would check…

Nautilus Undersea Tour

Nautilus Undersea Tour

The Nautilus Undersea Tour in the Grand Cayman port of George Town was a great excursion where you’ll see tropical fish, shipwrecks, and snorkel over a beautiful reef area. From the end of the pier, you’ll take a 2-minute bus ride to where the Nautilus is tied up. You’ll go down the ladder beneath the decks and have front row seats to see an underwater wonderland. Your tour guide will tell you stories about the history of the Grand Cayman…

Disney Fantasy Pools, Slides, and Sports Activities (Decks 11-13)

Disney Fantasy Pools, Slides, and Sports Activities (Decks 11-13)

The Disney Fantasy pools, slides, and sports activities on decks 11-13 were very popular places to be for our family. We didn’t spend a lot of time in our stateroom, as it was much more relaxing and fun to sit in the hot tub; play a round of mini golf; or chill out poolside in a lounge chair. Some nights we’d get changed after the evening shows and head up to Deck 11 at 9:00 pm for an hour or…

Chacchoben Mayan Ruins

Chacchoben Mayan Ruins

The Chacchoben Mayan Ruins excursion from Costa Maya was a great choice. In addition to seeing the amazing ancient ruins, we also were able to get a real perspective of a rural farm village on the Mexican Yucatan peninsula. Had we stayed in the resort coastal area, it would be hard to say that we truly experienced Mexico at all. The bus ride from Costa Maya to Chacchoben was about an hour long. Our tour guide, Antonio from Belize, was…

Disney’s Castaway Cay

Disney’s Castaway Cay

Disney’s Castaway Cay is their very own private Bahamian island, located southwest of Freeport and almost 100 miles directly north of Nassau. With so much to see and do, be sure to get off the ship for this last port call of your cruise! And whereas the other ports had add-on pricing for excursions, most of the activities here are absolutely free. You can relax by the beach, grab a tube and just float in the warm blue water, snorkel,…

Disney Fantasy Entertainment

Disney Fantasy Entertainment

The Disney Fantasy entertainment was top shelf. The shows were Broadway caliber; the comedians made me laugh so hard my abs hurt; the hypnotist was very entertaining (& even had the skeptics in our family believing!). Your dining rotation each night aligns with the timing of your theater seating for the evening show. Even if the title of the show doesn’t overly excite you – don’t miss it! We thoroughly enjoyed each evening presentation, including the family movie night. You’ll…
